How are we halfway through November already? Oddly, the weather in Kansas City doesn’t feel like it. It was warm enough to run on the trail this morning, so I was able to make a dent in my growing podcast queue (which is a side effect of running indoors instead of outside in cooler weather). Unfortunately, I’ll be at least a day late to the latest episode of Pluribus…
Which, what a show. I watched both of the first episodes to drop in this last week. It’s hard to describe, but it’s a thrilling (and fun?) show. I’m excited to see where it goes from here. I listened to the official podcast yesterday and there’s a small hint of the premise of the show which has me interested in what’s next.
This week I kind of got back into the daily game, uh, game. Joe Fabisevich posted that his wife, Colleen, has been working on an app called Spark and it launched this week. Currently three days in, it’s a very fun daily puzzle app which is a bit more mindful than something like Wordle. Fun and free, so you should check it out! (That part of my brain being itched resulted in me also doing the Apple News puzzles, Chad Etzel’s Letters, and - yes - Wordle for the first time in a long while.)
Another recommendation for the week is Project Hail Mary. I first read Andy Weir’s book from 2021 shortly after it came out (because I loved The Martian and Artemis), and it quickly rocketed to the top of my “best books ever” list (others of a similar vein are 11/22/63 and Dark Matter). But with the movie coming out next year (I can’t wait!) and a momentary lapse in having a hold ready for another book, I reread it last weekend. I almost never reread books, so this was a big deal for me. If you need more persuasion, I mentioned it to friends in a group chat and got this response after a few days: “You were right. Haven’t been sucked into a book that heavily in a while 😅”.
In Tyler Venn diagram news, Kansas City just got Apple’s Detailed City Experience (the little 3D models of landmarks, super detailed lane markings and tree locations, etc) and Look Around (like Google Street View). If you need me, I’ll be perusing my city in digital form on my phone.
This weekend, we’ve got some kids sports events (what’s new?) and the Chiefs are back after a bye week. After a warm interlude this weekend, we’re going to gray and rainy soon. Soup season!
“Where did this come from? Tyler’s writing actual posts now?” I guess so? This was inspired by Myke Hurley’s The Enthusiast site, particularly his weekly recommendation posts. Be sure to check it out!
